1.8 2007 Ghia Diesel, engine systems fault messgae

Featured Replies

I was driving yesterday and pulled out onto a road and every light flashed up on the dash and the car went into decreased acceleration mode with engine systems fault message. Pulled in and tried to restart car but wouldn't start and just kept displaying engine systems fault message. OBD didn't find any codes but pressed reset codes anyway and the car started again fine and did journey to and from work no issue. Went out last night to test drive car again and it got about 1 metre down the lane and went into decreased acceleration and once again said engine systems fault. Hooked up OBD again and this time it displayed codes: u0140 lost communication with body control module and code u0155 lost communication with IPC control module. On the card dash when I do a check I'm also getting codes: DTC D900, E510 and D147.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be and any fixes??

Many thanks,

John

Just to add the car sometimes starts absolutely fine with no messages and has just managed a drive around the block without any issues. Both times when it entered decreased acceleration mode I was just pulling off / in first gear and pulling out from 0mph.

Whack the dash above the instrument cluster and see if you get any reaction.

very possibly the cluster dry solder joint issue in the cluster  refurb/resolder about £100

Agree. Classic symptoms of cracked solder joints.

Thank you! Will try this tomorrow, the problem is it's working fine again have done two drives.

I don't know a lot about this kind of thing but is it possible the battery could cause such an issue? When the car showed the fault codes (on the dash screen) I saw the battery said 12.2 on there..which from googling suggests it is very low... would this potentially be a cause as well or does it definitely sound more like the cluster causing the issues mentioned?

Someone also said to check alternator but again I don't know a lot so open to all suggestions and appreciate the feedback so far, will action cluster repair suggestion soon as I have the money to, just don't want to spend money on repairs that aren't necessary if I can help it aha

Much appreciated thank you! Fingers crossed ..

To be honest if the cluster joints have never been resoldered it's well worth doing to forestall future problems. It's important to remove the existing lead-free solder and resolder with leaded solder. Just reflowing the joints can mean the problems reappear later on.

Depending on which joints have cracked it's possible to get a wide range of spurious errors. The 'U' codes indicate canbus errors.

Just wanted to return and confirm that after a few months this was definitely the issue. Got the cluster resoldered and no issues so far again 💯
