Dynamic lines on aftermarket reverse camera

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if dynamic lines are possible on screen with an aftermarket camera. Sync3 2017 car?

🤔I think you can turn them on with FORScan.

I don't think you need the Ford camera for it to work.

I'm sure someone will be along to correct me

Thanks just wondering if anyone had done it before i change it in the BCM.

I think APIM not BCM

@Rowan112 can you advise?

I have seen the answer to this somewhere here on this forum. If I remember correctly there is a wire that need to be connected between the BCM and the APIM.

I'll see if I can find the details. Who knows I might even get around to doing my own car 🤣

That would be great if you could find it. Tjanks.

would you not need to be able to switch any lines currently coming from the camera

in the old days, posh cars generated their own "dynamic lines" using a separate module taking info on steering position and overlaid this on screen - my one is like this, the Japanese ASIN module to do just this cost $2000 - the accountants didn't like that, and facelift versions of my car superimposed static lines on screen within the head unit

then the world of data flow and maths moved on a few centuries - with steering angle data now std fit on all cars (with mandatory ESP) and electronics becoming cheap as "chips" its doesn't take much for a modern car to be able to have dynamic lines

thus because some cars can make their own lines, decent aftermarket cameras can switch on or off any lines its invented - but if they are coming from an aftermarket camera but can't be disabled, will this cause fun with the way info is presented?

It has static lines already which can be disabled.

If you can find the details that would be fantastic.

Since my Sync 3 upgrade I can't get the dynamic lines to appear even with all OEM components (though mine is a 12/13 MK3 with Sync 3 retrofit). No amount of coding helps. I don't even get the red/yellow/green or the centre line except if I start the car when it's in reverse they'll appear for a second or two then disappear.

I'll keep looking.

I remember seeing the answer posted about 3 years ago but just can't find away to search the forum for it.

Geeze man, what you need is to round up a posse! 🤣

What we need is a search system that actually works and has some decent filters. Do we know anyone on the forum that knows about IT stuff ? 😉

or maybe ask jw

I rarely use the forum search function as it's so poor. I have had success though in finding forum posts by simply using Google, and stipulating the FOC...

Thank you for linking that thread. It does answer some questions but is perhaps now out of date ?

I know that there is a wire needed for Sync3 at least, that possibly goes between the APIM and the BCM in order for the dynamic parking lines to work. The information posted by JW is perhaps only for Sync1.

From what I understand the wire already exists if the car came with reverse camera from the factory.

Selfishly for my issue I believe all wiring is already in place and I'm starting to lean towards a camera or BCM incompatibility. It's a "nice to have" for sure, but I'm used to it not being present now 🙂

Well after searching again, it seems that my memory may be confused 🙄

Here are 3 threads that give good information, but I conclude that dynamic parking lines are only possible with genuine Ford cameras.

Some interesting links there and gives me something to look at before my Forscan license expires 🙂 Cheers!
