Spec me a dash cam please

That was ok back in the day, but on modern cars with curtain airbags, you should really remove the trim to make sure the cable isn't going to affect the airbag deployment.

Ok so a spanner in the works was about to get the A129 pro duo, then I noticed the A229 plus duo for similar price.

The latter is not 4k, but would it still be better to go for if the price is similar?

I do quite a bit of night time driving so unsure if one does this better over the other.

Ok so I went for the A229 pro in the end😆

For the rear I want it as discreet as possible, where would be the best placement on the rear window?

This is where I have my rear DashCam. At the side angled to take in rear. Discrete, and doesn't obscure rear view in mirror.

Of course, it's a pure deterrent as it's an old camera not actually wired in 😂

Hi

Got the A229 today, I connected to the cameras Wifi, but is it not possible to connect to my home network, Im a bit lost, the instructions are not very clear.

I think the WiFi will only be to connect your phone to it via the app.

Yeah it seems to use the app, I always need to switch to the Viofo wifi network, there is something in app settings to use the home network but not sure what thats for as when it connects to that the app doesn't connect anymore to the camera.

Think it's called "station mode".

Anyway all installed, rear camera is a bit fiddly, was attempting to pass the wires via the rubber tubes, but its a faff, so I just run the cable loose between the roof felt and rear window, looks ok. though rear cable is long, so have a bit of excess I had to just tuck away in the boot.

That's just so the Chinese intelligence service can monitor your movements .

I always wondered what that was for 🤣

Have to feel sorry for anyone monitoring my movements.

I'm feeling very generous - I'm refraining from making the obvious comment LOL 😂

Hi

I would like to get a dash cam for my fiesta MK8, something small and discreet with good image quality, especially at night as I drive home from work at night a lot.

I don't plan to wire it in, but would like to keep it plugged in to the power source providing it doesn't stay on when I lock the car.

Thanks

Had a Dash Cam, still do, unfortunately it is powered down. My reason is that the Ka Mk2 I have has an interior with the structural integrity of dust. Started to use the prying tool for the wiring and knew that if I carried on I'd be driving in an empty biscuit tin with some rubber mats. So I had the radical idea of leaving the dead camera up, my 'Dashcam on board' sign in the rear window and see what happened. And I have to say, not much. People ignore the sign just the same as always and drive past like a Cheetah with a bum full of dynamite. I have a theory why, but that's for another thread.

If you think the idea of Chinese mass surveillance is fanciful I suggest you take a read of this.

The point I'm making is that China is a hostile power and when you buy internet-enabled products from Chinese suppliers you can have no idea what "backdoors" might have been programmed in. This is why the government eventually woke up to the threat and banned China from supplying 5G equipment.

The idiots Cameron and Osborne thought they could "engage" with China. China just saw that as weakness which they were only too happy to exploit.

You're absolutely right. This is why it's very important that all businesses and professional services should make sure to use 'CrowdStrike' for complete safety and  peace of mind 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well Eufy security cameras are exactly the same. But if the Chinese Secret Service want to know when the bins go out, my letters are delivered and which cat is whizzing on my cars tyres they can knock themselves out.

We're already carting around the most monitored item on the planet in our pockets with more cameras and broadcasting equipment than BBC television centre. And it's not just one, let's not kid ourselves, most of them are out there with their ears on.

Also there are more cameras in this country than any other nation in the world. 5.2 million of them. 1 for every 13 people. So we don't have to look far to get nice and paranoid

We're near the top, but China has over 200 Million (that they admit to), USA have over 50 Million, and Germany equal us at 5.2 Million. I also believe that North Korea is tripping over them to! 😁

Thank the lord I only gave them the guest network credentials.😆

That's just reminded me, that a few years back while up in the Lake District, I clocked a bunch of Chinese taking photos of absolutely everything, however mundane, including dustbins. I wonder.......

I wouldn't read too much into that. My mother is exactly the same. After my birth she started recording every minute of every day and has carried on. You could put all my photos in order and flip book me from toddler to the 6 foot 4, 57 year old blancmange of a human I am now.

Saying that she is a Warden in the local Methodist Church, they've got an intelligence network that would rival the international security services. You have been warned. 🤔
