Rear Brake pad change causing multiple issues

Featured Replies

Hi All, i have a 2018 mk4 focus 1.5 EcoBlue.

I recently changed the rear brake pads and followed all the recommended steps with turning the EB into maintenance mode.

I fit the pads and although some places said there was no need to wind the piston back, it did in fact need to be wound back.

Anyway, I put it all back together and turned maintenance mode off as it said on the video.

The park brake works and my brakes work whilst driving. However.. and here is the kicker.. I keep getting the following errors.

Park Pilot malfunction

ESC requires servicing

Hill assist not available

Pre-colission assist not available

The traction control warning light is displaying as well as the brake light.

But the brakes work.. I am so confused over this. I have disconnected battery, checked the fuses and no matter how much I reset the vehicle, it doesn't work.

Does anyone have any advice or come across this before and know what I need to do?

Many thanks in advance.

The first thing I would do is measure the vehicle battery voltage with a multimeter (1 hour after you park) Check the state of charge on the attached table.

Thanks for your reply.

I have charged the battery earlier before posting this. It's sitting around 12.4 on 100% whilst engine is off and around 14.8 whilst engine is running.

Many thanks

I wonder if you've lost the signal from one of the ABS sensors (hence the traction control warning). Maybe you disturbed something whilst working on the brakes. You really need to use Forscan to see what DTCs are being thrown up.

I have had it on a basic obd scanner. But no errors are coming up.

I will take the wheels off and check all the connections again but I can't see what would be causing the issue as the brakes work 🤔

I will prob have to run it into a garage and see what they say.

As @mjt has said.....

Generic garage code readers read generic codes.

Found the cultrip I think. It's this sensor. Anyone know what it is or what I need to get / do to fix / replace? 20240428_152648.thumb.jpg.c95310604e85463c2bb26654385bf38a.jpg

It's the ABS wheel speed sensor. Cost about £25 for a genuine Ford part.

This is an example on eBay (not the exact part for your car):
