ForeScan OD Rollback

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have recently bought a cluster for my mk7 as it was really scratched by previous owner. The new cluster works fine but has 142K on and my car only has 120k is there a way to roll this back using forescan?

The short answer is no.

The instrument cluster has been designed by Ford so that the mileage can only be moved forward.

A few specialist IC repair companies will set the mileage to zero, which I suspect is done by replacing the EEPROM chip with a new one.

Were you able to just replace the cluster ?

I was under the impression that the engine ECU, Cluster and Key all had to be changed together ?

Would be interested to know

The front "lens" of the cluster is usually removable.

Just swap the fronts and keep your original cluster in use

I know of one guy that can zero clusters, but as has been said replace the front lens. Clusters can be recoded to cars as with Keys etc, but you end up with a doorstop if you get it wrong.

I needed a cluster with just over 41,000 on it for my 2007 which i was NEVER gonna find unless i bought new.

So would the best option to buy a new cluster and use forescan to up the mileage to 120k?

No, swap the lens and use the original cluster

I think you underestimate the complexity of replacing the instrument cluster with a different unit. They are programmed and form part of the vehicles immobiliser system. For someone with experience in using FORScan then changing the mileage upwards is fairly straight forward. Sorting out the immobiliser and the PATS keys takes quite a bit more.

Provided you keep the circuit board from your original cluster then you can change all of the plastic parts, front screen, and front and rear housings quickly and simply without the need to involve NASA.

Roll forward to 999,999 miles and drive a mile.

That will not work.

The unit will just remain to display 999.999 Miles and will not go any further. It will definitely not return to zero.

Just change the lens on your original cluster
