Powershift leaking oil

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an S-max 2.0 tdci 2013 powershift, which is leaking oil from the gearbox plastic cover and possibly the main oil seal, i recently purchased the car, which as warranty and the gearbox was refurbished.

They are going to book in to reseal the plastic cover. my concern is how much damage will be done, should it be fully stripped and checked ? i'm hoping they will redo the main oil seal at the same time.

@TrevorB can you advise ?

also have a real big delay when pulling of from start and 30mph the car is struggling as in the wrong gear, TCM is on latest firmware i could find on forscan.

What do you all think?

Thanks.

Give them the car back

Hi Dean,

I would agree with DaveT70, it sounds far more than just an oil leak that needs fixing. With a recon trans, if done correctly, it should perform perfectly fine.

Unless a really serious oil leak I cant imagine any damage being done - therefore to me, it means it has not been reconditioned correctly.

Also, what main oil seal do you mean - the engine rear crankshaft oil seal or a gearbox oil seal.

I am always sceptical about some of these so called refurbishments - there are so many things that must be done to a powershift rebuild.

Apart from rebuilding the actual trans correctly specific and detailed attention needs to be applied to the solenoids etc in the Mechatronic Unit - I found this post very helpful

The gearbox company are a reputal company so i would hope it was rebuilt correctly. Its the plastic cover for the solenoids that is leaking, so assume gasket got pinched or not enough sealant.

What sort of questions can i ask around the gearbox to ensure it is does correctly.

As for the main oil seal, i mean the rear oil seal on the engine where the gearbox connects.

So you think should be ok?

Thanks

If it's not working right it was not rebuilt correctly.

Take it back

Regarding the oil leak from engine rear crankshaft oil seal - sorry I am not clued up on these diesels but most rear crank oil seals can easily be replaced once the transmission is removed - hopefully someone else can confirm this for your particular diesel engine.

If the trans is not working correctly, as others have said, it has not been refurbished correctly
