Need help w/ engine mount issue & crank pickup gear

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Finally got around to trying to do my timing belt. Had many lovely problems! That wiring harness is a pain in the rear. The connector down by the dipstick tube is stupid and so is the cable clip on top of the compressor...

Anyhow, I've run into two issues that have stopped me in my tracks.

1. The bolts that mount the upper engine mount to the car have rusted and I cannot remove them. I've ordered a bolt extractor kit, so hopefully I'll have some luck, if there are any tips, please let me know. (My airbox ones rusted up, but they were easy to grind and remove, replacing with stainless ones)
The main issue is that I won't be re-using these bolts and my new engine mount didn't come with any. I've no idea what sizing of bolt or part number for them there may be if any and was hoping one of you could give me a heads up. Ideally would like to see if I can pick some up tomorrow or at least order them in for delivery asap.

2. The car was playing up a little when trying to crank over the other week. I've not started it since, but according to my findings and an OBD code (p0366) It's worth inspecting the cranks pickup ring. I've ordered a new one, but I feel stupid, 'cause I can't figure out how to remove the ***** thing.
I've got all my locking pins in the timing gear, the old belt is off. Am I being stupid? Do I just pull it off or am I missing something? I've removed the sensor and the belt guide for the belt changing, but otherwise I'm stumped.

Thanks!

So to update:

I've found that I'll need 3x Flanged m10 x 30mm bolts.

I've also found a part number or two:

W706408S437

and

1513426

Now I can't seem to find any stockists. I can only seem to find USA stockists, charging 10-20 dollars per bolt, and then shipping on top. Or a Lithuanian Ebay seller @ £13 per bolt.

Would anyone have any idea where I could source these bolts from in the UK, as I need to sort this issue, already running behind as my parts order was already delayed by two weeks, not really wanting to have to wait much longer to get this sorted. There's bound to be another car or a motor factors that stocks equivalents.

Arnold Clark Ford UK sell those bolts for £11.75 each.  Genuine Ford Bolt And Washer Assy - Hex.Head - 1513426 | eBay

Your local dealer may sell them more cheaply if you ask there.  Alternatively, there must be thousands of them in UK breakers yards if you don't want to pay new prices.

Regarding the crank pulley, it does just pull off, but will be tight.  You can put a small pry bar in behind it to gently lever it off.  Just make sure not to touch the actual pickup ring at all as it only takes a tiny bend to mess up the sensor reading.

Brill, thanks for that!

I'm still appalled by the costing of those bolts. I'll probably try the local breaker yard. I did consider using a grade 10.9 flanged bolt, but I'd bet that the bolts wouldn't get in so easily, pretty sure the tapering of them helps them slot in.

And thanks for the heads up on the crank pulley. I'll have a joust at that. One thing to mention is that I didn't find the part on Autodoc for my car, though I sourced it from another car, using a HDI 1.6 engine. Specs are: 22 teeth, 35.27 width. I'll compare the new one with the current one, but was a little worried that again I couldn't find any spares for that part for my car using it's reg. Oh well, I'll soon find out!
