Ford Fiesta MK5 Facelift - Immobiliser error 1-6

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and I hope I am posting this in the right place. I recently got my driver’s license, and my father bought me a 2006 Ford Fiesta Mk5 facelift.

After purchasing the car, we drove over 60 km home, where we washed and detailed it. I used the car for a day, but then the immobilizer started acting up, preventing me from starting the car.

The first sign of trouble was during a drive when the battery warning light turned on, and then literally every single light on the dashboard started flickering. I lost the speedometer, RPM counter, mileage estimation, current mileage, and time, all of which displayed as (----).

After turning off the car, the red light at the top centre of the instrument cluster starts flickering, and after around 60 seconds, it flickers once, pauses, and then flickers six more times. I believe this corresponds to the PATS error code 1-6.

The car has now been to three different shops, and no one has been able to diagnose the issue.

Here is what we have checked and done so far:

  • Checked the fuse box (both behind the glovebox and the battery)
  • Checked the relays
  • Checked the cabling
  • Sent the instrument cluster for repair twice
  • Sent the instrument cluster, key ring, ECU, and PATS module to a specialist company for re-soldering and testing
  • Checked the battery voltage
  • Resynced the keys (by turning the key four times and then pressing the lock button)
  • Tried the backup key

These are the error codes read by an OBD2 scanner:  Error Codes .

We are running out of ideas, and the situation has been very stressful. If anyone has any suggestions or knows how to fix this, please let me know.

Replace the instrument cluster and reprogramme it.

The instrument cluster was repaired and reprogrammed to no avail

Which is why you need to replace it. There is zero guarantee that the repair was successful.

More importantly, did Pedro replace the instrument cluster, and if so, did this solve the original issue...😁
