Oil pressure light (Intermittent)

Featured Replies

I've recently had a service which included an oil change (5w30) and oil paper filter. Soon after the service I mentioned to the mechanic that the oil pressure light comes on at certain points in my journey. He changed the filter and I requested another oil change. Sadly the light still comes on. The light only comes on when the engine is warm and only when I pull away from a junction where I've waited for 30 seconds. I accelerate away and the light pops on and the goes off. I've not visible leaks even from the pressure switch. When moving along the light never comes on. Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing the light to come on? NB If I keep the engine cool whilst driving the light doesn't come on

It may be just coincidence that this has just started happening after a recent service but it does need investigating further.

Start with the easy to check or change things first.

  1. Check the oil level is correct
  2. Change oil filter (yes again !!) and use a genuine Ford one.
  3. Replace oil pressure switch.
  4. Panic !

Thanks for the pointers. I will certainly give a try and hopefully avoid number 4

Hello Unofix. I forgot to give you an update. The Oil pressure switch was the reason for the pressure light coming on. thankfully didn't need to panic. Cheers for the advice. Now for the battery light, another post.
