Sun removes dents?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Looking over somebody's 2023 Fiesta I noticed a very, very minor blink and you'd miss it dent on a door. Only visible with a close inspection and only from a certain angle. It's only a few mm in size and certainly not noticeable in the everyday. So, I was wondering after hearing of other stories if anybody has had any success with dents disappearing from the vehicle after being parked in the sun thus heating up the door causing the dent to expand back to shape.  Thanks.

Nope.  Not even on a black car that absorbs every bit of sun that touches it.

Depending on where the dent is, it may be removed by paintless dent repair (PDR).

I had a brilliant guy remove 7 x dents from my car when I 1st got it some years ago, very reasonable at only £70, fascinating process to watch! The only one he couldn't get was on the rear wheel arch as there's nowhere to insert the 'pokey out' tool!

Thanks. It's so tiny I didn't even mention it to the owner but its one of those that you know is there but isn't obviously visible.

Anybody used the glue pads and mini puller to remove small dents ?

Not personally, but I have seen it work.

Like Tom, I've seen it done - on one of my own cars. Quite a big car park ding, fortunately paint not broken, amazing result - literally no trace afterwards.

Coincidental that you also happen to have a 2023 Fiesta yourself - not "asking for a friend" by any chance?😀.

But funnily enough, on the original point, I picked up 2 little dings in the back door of my previous Fiesta which seemed obvious at the time. At trade in 3 years later, I couldn't even find them, nor could my dealer when checking it over.

Possible explanations:

a) There could be some merit in the sun/heat theory though I doubt it**

b) You notice these things more when they first occur as it's upsetting, but then forget about it

c) My eyesight deteriorated in between (though I have regular checks and my optometrist says not!)

I think b) is the more likely!😀

** A heat gun is, though, one of the tools used by professional PDR operators

No, not mine. A family member mentioned somebody parked too close to his and he has the same spec and colour so I couldn't help having an inspection. They couldn't notice anything when they inspected so I didn't have the heart to point it out and worry them. Maybe I'll mention it at some point. Like I say it is miniscule but still annoys me. I asked about the natural sun phenomenon as I know a lot of the Yanks swear by it and after hail damage park out in the sun on the next hot day and see the dents disappear.

It does seem an odd cure, if all it took was a bit of sun, we'd all be advised to point a heat gun at a dent and watch it disappear! 🤣

I wouldn't believe localised heat just at dent would help but the whole panel heating up for a few hours and expanding by just that little bit may be just enough. Maybe just maybe. Let you know at the end of summer if I can still spot it.

I've been watching the one some kind person put in the rear side panel of my wife's car, about 18 months ago. It's still there..........😀

Time to get the heat gun out 😂
