Help with jacking up Fusion (EU/2010)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have some questions regarding jacking up my car.

Uptill recently, I was always able to use a car lift to lift the car. I have moved and now I'll have to do it with a jack and jackstands.

I noticed however, there seems to be some slight deformation on the outer sills of the car near the jacking points. (See pictures included, one of the rear and one of the frond end.)
Although the metal feels sturdy and strong and there are no signs of any rust, I just wanted some more experienced eyes on this matter as well. On the first picture, the rear sill, I am not sure if it is deformation or just a weld that's bigger. On the last picture, the front sill, the deformation is under the plastic and is no more than 3x2 inches in length/width and no more than 0.2 inch in depth (most likely 0.1ish). On both sills, the inner sills are in good condition.

1. I was wondering if it is still safe to jack on these points / use axle stands?
(Ha, sorry for the dirt, it was a rainy day yesterday)

2. When jacking the rear > I suppose I should use the points on the sills for the axle stands, but where do I jack the car up from the rear? The Haynes manual states that the rear beam could be used, but won't that cause deformation and misalignment? Tips are very welcome!

What Jack are you using ?  The supplied car jack fits under the sill.

I use two trolley jacks, and at the rear i use the underside of the spring seat, and at the front I use the box section where it has an overlap, but with a spreader plate on the jack seat. I also have spreader plates on my axle stands for either end of the rear beam and front cross member.

I have seen tyre depots use one jack under either the beam or the front cross member.....

Well currently none, as I was always able to use a bridge. Planning on buying a trolley jack as wel along with some quality axle stands.

Thank you for your reply! By spring seats in the rear, you mean directly under the spring, right? (see picture, this is a Ford Fiesta, but they look similar). Do you jack the car form up there or do you use axle stands?

For the car above, and a 2007 Fiesta, for the rear, I jack under the spring seat.  For the supplied jack, there are four semi-circular cut outs on the sills, l/r and f/r, indicating the jack points.
