Forscan Help Plz. Oxygen Sensor Failed? Unsure

Featured Replies

I’m having an issue. I’ve changed for genuine Ford oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1, changed the plug that plugs into the sensor plug and when car is warm I wasn’t getting the p2237 code….but now the engine is cold, the sensor one doesn’t move and the code came back. Can anyone help me please because I’m losing my will to live now

tried loading the video but won’t let me load the video that shows the live data.IMG_9044.thumb.png.e84c7884db010a7179407481a63094b8.pngIMG_9043.thumb.png.2d1952767103b6dffb2d1c715aaaeff1.pngIMG_9041.thumb.png.de3be2cbd140a3c207a8efa590c16b69.png

@Bar72 I have an issue with forscan mode6 showing the same out of range for the first o2 sensor? Did you manage to also fix that? I also have misfires that have got worse since pulling the ign coils so got 4 on order.20250206_210139.thumb.jpg.ec6c32f3dccc84059eb540885ff86430.jpg

No mate you getting same code? P2237? I’ve been 2 garages, auto electrician. Have found out it’s mapped now aswell. Doing a little trick tonight to see if it’s a power supply issue. I have poor mpg, slight rough idle

This is what Graham Goode said yesterday and charged me £103 for the pleasure and not finding the fault other than blaming the map didn’t know I had

@James pritchard yours is a diesel isnt it? Was hoping that @Bar72 is still around the forum as he had the same fault as what I am chasing

Yes mate and I’m actually on to it now, code off after either moving the loom by gearbox where it bends behind boost pipe or it’s the area at the side of the egr where it rests on the plastic holder, you can just see it at the bottom of pic. These are my 2 areas I’m concentrating on now but 90% of me thinks gearbox area tbh

@James pritchard I think you would be better served if you created a thread with the details of the issues you have had and what you have done so far as I am a bit confused. A new thread might tidy that up and keep things relevant.

@scoobydo123 I'd check your coil pack on the 3rd cylinder then look at O2 Sensor if problems still persist.  Turned out it was the MAP sensor that cured mine.  MAP problems don't show up on Forscan but they do throw misfire codes elsewhere, false positives, if you will.

Just to add,

On older type sensors, like on the mk2's, usually the same 0.5v for upper and lower data means the O2 sensor's playing up.  If it's the first sensor, as in, sensor 1 / bank 1, before the cat convertor which is faulty, your fuel trim will be constantly adjusting as ECU can't get data it needs from O2 sensor.  Do a live data on Short Term and Long Term fuel trims.  Any higher that 10% then there's definitely a problem with a sensor somewhere.  Live data's your friend here!

O2 sensor's usually last 100,000 miles and if one goes, replace both of them as when one goes, the other's usually not far behind.

If it's the MAP sensor then car will sometimes idle rough and be hesitant to respond to throttle pedal when warm, possible misfire and cut back when more fuel demanded.  Again, live data is your friend here.

Coil pack generally gives misfires when warmed up so car runs sweet when cold then problems start when engine warmed up.  I did notice your misfire is on cylinder 3.  Easy way to test coil pack is swap it with another coil pack then recheck with forscan.  Do a cleardown of the error codes in forscan before rechecking.

If error which in your case, was on 3rd cylinder and you swap coil packs 3 & 4 then error will clear on 3rd cylinder and appear on 4th cylinder as that's where you swapped suspect coil pack to.

Have changed all 4 ign coils as got a good deal on genuine Ford ones. Misfires that you can feel from cold are now gone. If you look back to the beginning of the thread on the forscan data you posted you had a voltage amplitude out of range I have the same did you fix that or is that a forscan red herring. I have swapped the o2 sensor from a focus which is the same I believe amd it still reports the same 999.9mv. I also still have these misfires logged and incomplete data monitors.Screenshot_20250214-203746_AutelMaxiAP200.thumb.jpg.d17a1b01fd00f01d6e2cc471c38fac36.jpg

Did you change both bank 1 and 2 O2 sensors?  I did both and the MAP sensor and that's cured all my misfires.

Only changed my front O2 just because I had access to one and the scanner was moaning that it was out of range. Have just bench tested the one that came out and it seems to be reacting ok. How did you establish that the MAP sensor needed changing and once you changed all of these did you no longer have the out of range on the voltage amplitude for o2 1?  Tks

Still not getting anywhere with the o2 sensor voltage amplitude showing 999.9mw in forscan ;-( total misfires now displaying zero since changing all ign coils previously was in the 50k on 10min drive, however this could be red herring as my Son despite numerous telling him don't let the tank go under a quarter so not sure if misfires are logged when FLI is low. Have bench tested both o2 sensors and they when are glowing orange with heating with map has output .96v and as soon as the flame is moved rapidly go down. Also done a back pressure test at 2000rpm in the pre cat o2 port and that shows all OK. When at idle in closed loop o2 sensor 1 s rapidly switching o2 sensor 2 is .64 and if I hold 2000rpm the 2nd o2 sensor starts trending downwards with a very occasional lean reading after a minute or so. CAT seems very clean maybe too clean has done 90k and previous mot 3 years ago mentions cracked flexi joint so maybe is aftermarket and is dead due to misfires that were not sorted by previous owner. However last emission report in Novemeber before I purchased showed 0 HC on fast idle test but high HC on natural idle.

Assuming this is a 2008 Mondeo with the 2.0 Duratec lump?

Don't think you can test narrowband sensors with a multimeter as they don't update fast enough to keep up with a good working sensors reading.  When in the car and working with a good fuel mixture you should fluctuating around 0.45v.  bank 2 sounds like it's working as voltage dropping means CAT is working as mixture is fine.  Setup and keep an eye on live data and watch what the short term fuel trim is doing.  My O2 was "lazy" at updating voltages which was throwing my fuel trim values to 12%.  Ideally, anything under 10% is fine but 5-8% is about where you want to be.

If you're 100% that bank 1 sensor is indeed working then throw some injector cleaner through it and see if thing improve as it may be dirty or clogged injectors, if that 0.9v bank 1 reading is correct, which suggests the mixture is rich, however, cat looks too clean for a consistently rich mix going into it.  Again, back to lazy O2 in bank 1.

MAP sensor was result of a 400 mile round trip where I monitored the 5v feed and eventually noticed that just now and again, there was an intermittent voltage drop to 0v, which occurred right around when car was "missing", usually when giving it throttle, under load, around 2-3,000RPM.

You'll want to be sure on this as they are an absolute nightmare to change.  Get yourself a very long handled T25 torx as you won't be going in with your average socket set to easily!

@Bar72 is a 2.0 HE engine. The .96 was when I was using the Mapp gas on it. Fuel trims at 5pc when  I have caught a look at it. I purchased some seafoam  injector cleaner yesterday and that has been put in with 3/4 of tesco 99 RON. Today on the original o2 sensor 90k miles I connected that to a 12volt bench supply and used the Mapp gas directly on the o2 sensor not lit  and it would go to .64v if I took the gas away and then blew on the sensor it would switch immediately to .2v ie needed airflow to clear it.  Will get a front o2 sensor I think as the one Inout on was from a working focus but with 165k on it so could be well past its best. I think a new cat has been put on it as mot 3 years back had monitor and repair due to leak at flex joint. No leak now so work has gone on there. Tks

Just a thought, does this engine have swirl flaps in the inlet manifold. I know some earlier versions had issues with them but this is a later one.

Do you know what years had these?
