Mk 7 fiesta stop/start permanently on

Featured Replies

Hi knowledgeable ford people! 😁

I know stop/start tech is as much use as a chocolate fireguard, but just wondering whether it being on permanently is a good thing?  I haven't had anything done to over-ride this, just turned on engine one day & noticed the LED was on & couldn't be turned off, but it turns off when pressing button while engine not running!  I do a lot of short journeys being a pizza delivery Driver so the start/stop isn't much good to me anyway!  Any help will be appreciated!  Doubt if it's anything drastic or expensive but just thought I'd find out!

Thanks people xx

Julez

That is the correct operation.  It was required for type approval of the vehicle design so cannot be switched off permanently.

Personally I never had a problem with stop start on various cars, but most on here hate it so you'll get mostly one-sided opinions.

I would say that's it's probably not ideal for pizza delivery though - unless you switch off the engine during drops normally?

Thanks Tom's focus

I may of confused you with the on /off thing, on, to me is when the engine doesn't stop when sitting at lights or stopping for short periods after applying hand brake & taking foot off clutch, which my fiesta is doing, I used to be able to choose whether or not to have this on via the button, but like I said it's on permanently soon as I switch engine on, but if I turn the key to the 1st or 2nd position the button does work .. i.e the orange LED goes off & on when pressing the button ... hopefully that now makes sense???

Well, stop start is a feature that's designed to stop the engine when you come to a stop.  So if it's not stopping the engine then that feature has been switched 'off'. 😄

It really doesn't matter from an engine point of view.  It's now just like an old car without the stop start feature fitted.

However, the fact that it's now permanently disabled suggests your car battery is probably on it's last legs.

Thanks again TomsFocus 😁

I'll put me battery tester/charger on it tomorrow & see if it's that, the battery has recently been replaced, so if its that I can take it back for a replacement.
