Battery recommendation for 2020 st line x fiesta

Featured Replies

Think my battery has given up the ghost and after googling which one to replace it with I'm even more confused. Seems a lot of the batteries offered are a different height?

It's stop start abut that hasn't worked for ages. I charged battery with a neco 5 until solid green and reset the BMS. All worked fine again then a day later stop/start wouldn't work and ford app said it was saving battery. This was after an hours drive. Also after an hours drive I checked voltage to battery and it was 11.8 which I know is bad.

I'm going to stick with the EFB so which one would you recommend that fits?

Thanks

One other strange thing is even though the voltage shows 11.8 my nocu genius 5 will get it to a solid green light in about 7 minutes.  I have no clue what that means.

You can download a user manual here: https://no.co/support if you have lost yours, plus other information. I've also had a pretty quick response to email queries about their products, taking into account the difference in time zones.

However, getting to the solid green within minutes doesn't sound right. I normally give mine a "top up" charge every couple of months when resting voltage Is around 12.4v. From there it reaches pulsating green fairly quickly, but solid green takes several hours.

Incidentally I had the issues with stop/start battery saving message etc almost from new on my previous Mk 8 and it was still starting first touch of the button when I traded it at 5 years.

The current car is pretty much the same so I wouldn't necessarily rush to swap the battery, if you can satisfy yourself that your charger is ok.

I do find it can be difficult to tell exactly at what stage the Noco is once it gets to green. It starts off pulsating rapidly, goes solid (but only for a few minutes - blink and you miss it) then goes to slowly pulsating (maintenance mode).

I also have a C-tek MXS 5 which clearly goes through stages 1-8 and is easier to follow.

Thanks.

The chargers red lights go out and the green ends up slow pulsing which according to noco means it's charged fully and maintaining until I disconnect.

To be honest, my car always starts first time instantly but it's the 11.8 voltage after a 40 min drive that's bothering me.

Did you check the voltage immediately after disconnecting the charger?  The green lights are probably detecting how much charge is being drawn into the battery, rather than how much voltage it can maintain.

Yes, it would be interesting to see what the battery was showing after a full charge (preferably overnight if possible), also what the voltage was while charging.

This thread which has now got pretty long, covers most of the battery issues raised on the Mk 8:

No the voltage was checked after a 40 min drive by my brother. I've bought a voltage tester today and just checked and it said 12.2. The charger is on now and it's taken a bit longer today and checked lights are on as well as the green so I'm hoping it's giving it more juice. Voltage right now with the charger attached is 13.48 so it's definitely doing something.

Update 5 mins later is now just green light which means fully charged and voltage with charger attached is 12.46. Without charger is 12.39

Something not sounding right here. Resting voltage would normally be in the order of 12.4v before charging, which is about the maximum the cars "intelligent" charging system will achieve left to its own devices. See table below.  After a full charge from that level (for several hours, not 40 minutes) I would expect 12.8-13.2v.

You really need to leave it overnight at the "slow green pulsing stage" and see what you have after that.

Thanks.

Yeah something weird definitely going on. Unfortunately I can't leave it on round here as it's parked on drive and they will nick the charger 😄. I am working over the road on Thursday though so can leave it on all day and keep an eye on it.

Ok I'm going to swap out the battery. I'm thinking of going for a Yuasa 100 7000 series. £93 from gsf. Is this a decent enough replacement?

Yes they are good batteries.

Do a price check online with tayna batteries but that price from GSF seems good.

Just check the battery height before you buy may need a yuasa 096 7000 series I have same model and 100 size didn't fit mine

My god these mk8's are damn stupid. So many problems with sizes of battery even though all sites say they will fit. Turns out the 7100 won't fit. All this drama over what used to be a quick job. 😄

Cheers guys

Had this with a galaxy. The battery would charge rapidly for a few seconds after key start. Before charge rate  would slowly drop to zero. After approximately 10 minutes it would be discharging the battery even if already in a discharged state. It went back to ford 3 times. Who each time recharged the battery and returned it no fault found. This was despite long drives depleting the battery to the point the spanner light would illuminate and run rough. I hooked the car up to Forscan and took it for a long drive and recorded charging behaviour. Returned to ford for a fourth time with Forscan data.  BMS module was replaced and software update  applied and that cured the problem.

Just wondering, did you have to do anything extra with the 96 other than the BMS reset?

Hi no I just fit a new yuasa 7096 battery and reset the BMS had no problems since much better than fords original and Even stop start works if i want it to.

Right. Back from holiday and about to buy. Took old battery out and it's only 240 length. The batteries recommended are 278 in length. Will this still fit?

The yuasa 7027 seems to match my battery. Is this a decent one?

Hi yes that one the 7027 will fit and been yuasa will be good quality. I could of fit that one but I went for 7096 due to it having a larger capacity 700cca 75 ah due to stop start I think it's worth the extra capacity. Don't worry about the extra length it does fit in the battery box just remove the wedge from box to allow larger battery to fit in. I have had several ford cars where original battery has failed due to been too small.

@tom10Just about to purchase a Yuasa YBX7096 on your recommendation, I have a 2020 Fiesta ST-Line, just triple checking that it will fit, thank you.

Hi I can confirm that the yuasa ybx7096 fit my 2020 mk8 fiesta st line with no problems and as they are the same model cannot see a problem this battery is slightly longer than the original one but fits in the battery box absolutely fine.

@tom10 Appreciate the confirmation, buying on Amazon and getting my car garage to fit it for me.

@tom10 Took car in today to have the YBX7096 fitted and after 45 mins I got back to be told it didn't fit.

I told them that Tom told me it does, so they re-tried and what would you believe, it fit. Thank goodness they were pleasant (that's why I go there). Alls well that ends well. 🙂

Thanks again Tom.
