Dash lights dimmed

Featured Replies

Hi 3rd world problem

Noticed today whilst driving as soon as I turned on my DRLs the lighting on dash dimmed,

Thought I'd dimmed it myself by mistake - no.

3 trips this morning,40 minutes each,

Same - np difference - dimmed.

This afternoon alls back as normal , bright- easy to read while before twas dimmed really low,

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this craic?

Thank you.

PS tried turning dimmer button to max- Min several times

No joy.

Also turned lights on/ off

No difference

DRLs are turned on automatically when you turn on the ignition, they are not 'user' controlled...

Ok but still dimmed when other lights on?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Has your car not got Auto Lights ?

  • Author

Yes,but I normally don't turn on that option as I'm driving on dangerous windy roads each morning, and the lights need to be on permanently,( country/ wooded area etc etc)

When auto is on it kicks in intermittently

You don't turn DRLs on, they're on by default in day mode.

Dash illumination is brighter in day mode.

If you turn on side lights or headlights, then you go into night mode and the dash will dim

Thanks I get that but alls back to normal, and dunno if it cos mines a jao import) Fiesta titanium S )

But my DRLs do not come on unless I physically turn on after driving away,

Yes they come on when I open doors ( keyless)

But immediately on pushing ignition switch they're off

That will be just the side lights then.

Do you have the LED strips in the headlamps?

If so, you can turn on the LEDs as, much brighter, DRLs using FORScan

Good point, well made, wish I'd have thought of that...

I'll take a pic , explain better

If you've switched the lights off completely, the dash will be at full brightness now.

If you switch the lights on (or they come on when using auto setting) then the dash dims.

The DRL switching requirements may be different for Jap specs.  We didn't get the Titanium S spec over here at all.

Well, in the words of my beloved partner in situations like this, "if you don't know, I'm certainly not going to tell you..." 😂

You're a bit confused

LED strips also work as side (marker) lights

Unlock car and/or open door, LED strips as side lights will be on (but dim), rear lights will be on, number plate lights will be on, dash illumination will be dim

Turn on engine with H/Lamp set to "0" or "OFF", LED strips as DRLs will be on (but brighter), rear lights off, number plate lights off, dash illumination bright

H/Lamp switch in position "=o=" or "=D", LED strips as side lights will be on (but dim), rear lights will be on, number plate lights will be off, dash illumination will be dim

My Ford ranger keeps smoking from the engine bay looks like it's coming from the exhaust Flexi pipe and It smells like fuel,It happens at random times but not all the time. It doesn’t overheat and it doesn’t lose any fluids that I can check. There is no signs of a leak on drive. Seems to come from inside the exhaust system but not 100% sure of this. It lasts about 2 minutes and then smoke is gone again and might not come back for a week. Smoke is a white maybe grey colour and looks like exhaust fumes. Exhaust has been replaced all ready and definitely no leaks on it. Air filter replaced also.

Since I bought my car, it always annoyed me that when I opened the rear hatch when it rained, I use to get a right soaking on my head, due to water always gathering in the gap between the rear screen and the body. I have meant to 'fix' it for years, but wasn't sure how. On surfing for something else, I stumbled on a listing for a generic push fit auto weather seal. I feel confident it's now all sorted. Bonus is that it genuinely looks, 'factory'. Oh, £8 including P&P!

Easier to clean too. For some reason Ford seem to have gone for semi-matt finishes in the wheels and grille of the Fiesta Mk 8.5 which are a pain to keep clean.
