Mk2 Front seat plastic side trim panel removal.

Featured Replies

How easily can the plastic trim shown in the photo be removed?

Can the seat adjuster wheel be prised off without damage, or is it permanently locked onto the spindle?

Someone else I know with a Mk2 has that piece of plastic broken. I may be able to get one from the breakers if it can be easily removed.

As far as I can tell, the plastic piece simply clips onto the seat frame.

For the driver's side seat, can the plastic handle be easily removed from the lever? That would have to be removed to remove the plastic panel.

Yank and pull is the answer here. I had to grip the adjusting wheel very tight by hand and wiggle and pull it off. Same with the height adjusting handle, it is locked by a plastic tab as i can remember so it might break but it wil still hang on pretty well after putting it on again. Or you can always secure it with a dab of glue.

Thanks for the reply. It is useful to know that it isn't permanently fixed to the spindle.

I can try and remove one at the breakers first before I try on my own car.

I thought it was as there was not a trace of screws or bolts or anything to lock the adjustment wheels in place. Just turned my hands into some monster gripping pliers and clutched my lips and teeth and pulled them off 😂

I got the trim piece over the weekend.

I was able to try removing the adjuster wheel from the scrap car first. It easily came off using a plastic trim removal lever.

The front clip is also broken on the driver's side seat trim of my Mk2. Now that I know it comes off easily, I am planning to fix it in place with a self tapping screw and washer.

I will drill a hole in the back of the moulded clip and put the screw in from the back where it won't be seen.

This was the exact reason for why i had to take the adjuster handle and wheel off too; the most front clip of the side trim was broken. Tried to glue it with Tec7 first but to no avail. Then i took of the trim and drilled a hole where the broken clip was and put an M6 rod there and filled up with hot glue. Used a nut on the backside to secure the trim 😀

I did much the same using a self-tapping screw into one of the slots.

The plastic is soft enough to push a self-tapper through on a solid surface using only a screwdriver before fitting.

To me the plastic piece is a bad design that clothes or shoes can easily catch on as you get out of the car.
