The springs on your car should have a 'dab' of paint on them and the colour determines which one you need. Of course on many cars the paint has long since rusted off.

If you know the exact day of manufacture of your car (You can get this from the VIN look-up) then it will narrow the choice down to only one or two.

Thanks @unofix looks like 02/06/2008 according to this.

But is that in UK format or US?  Could be June 2nd or Feb 6th!

As you’ve correctly identified that paint mark is no longer there so I would be guessing at this point.

What’s the differences? Spring stiffness?

Can anyone identify the full part number for me if it helps.

usually that is the case.

Without the paint colour it would be a bit of a guess 🙁

Parts in motion has confused me even more.

It recommends NCS1053 which is:

Manufacturer OEM number
FORD 1348881
FORD 1348882
FORD 4M515310BDA
FORD 4M515310BDA

But SSG Asia parts catalogue doesn’t reference any of these. Unless it is an old part number and been superseded?

You are over thinking this problem.

I have replaced several springs on my Mk 2 & Mk 2.5 Focus cars over the years.

The spare parts shops just go by the reg. number. The springs supplied fitted perfectly, car runs fine and the ride height has not changed.

ScaniaPBman.

The reason for different springs on the same base model car is to give the required ride height.

This varies with the different build options available so manufacturers usually have some complex calculations for working it all out

So when I removed the spring I did find some paint on them.

It appeared to be white (unless someone has paint marked them for location??).

In that case they would be FINIS number 1335389.

Which I think is 4M51-5310-AEB.

I’ve now fitted NAPA NCS1053 on one side but the ride height looks way off (big gap between wheel arch).

These cross reference as 1348881/1348882

4M51-5310-BDA

Now thinking I’ve got the wrong spring fitted or it’s out of balance because the other side hasn’t been done.

Or another thought the new dampers I’ve put in are faulty or haven’t been primed before installation. Read you have to pump them up and down a few times prior to fitment to prime them correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don’t think I’ve fitted the springs wrong I’ve made sure they were located into their top and bottom stop positions.
