Advice following oil change

Featured Replies

I have just changed my oil and filter this morning on my 1.0 Ecoboost. My wife has just driven off and I notice I have a small oil leak. I would guess its the sump plug. I didn't change it and should have done. I don't want to keep tightening until I strip the thread.

If I drain the oil, put in a new plug, is it OK to put the oil I have just drained back into the engine?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes that's fine.  As long as it's drained into a clean container.

It may not be the sump plug though, could also be the filter left slightly loose, so worth checking that as well.

few years ago that happened to me too, changed oil and filter, went back to check and there was a slight puddle on floor. realised i didnt tighten the filter.

I'd dump it tbh, you'll actually perform a sort of engine flush I'm thinking,

That's only me thinking but for the sake of buying a few litre of oil and oil filter I'd err on the side of caution,

Might be totally wrong of course and I'm sure more knowledgeable ppl on here will give U better advice

I have the same model and from what I've read and watched on YouTube etc I wouldn't take any chances with this ***** wet belt malarkey

Thanks guys. My wife has just returned and I’ve put a marker board under the car. I’ll check it in the morning.

Just checked and no oil drips under the car. It was definitely fresh oil. Very strange. Could it have been a small leak that has sealed itself? I’ll continue to keep an eye on it for a few weeks.

Degrease the entire engine with Gunk, thoroughly dry it off and give it a few days, then start looking for any visible wet spots.

More likely that it's some oil that got spilled when the filter was changed that took a while to find its way to the floor.

Keep an eye on it, if no more appears, then don't worry, but check the level regularly!

Thanks guys, still no drips and I’m pleased. I seem to have a car that has everything working. 👍👍

Happy days then
