Sync3 Only AM, No FM or DAB

Featured Replies

Hi all

i wonder if anyone can help

i'm in the UK & have a 2019 ford focust mk4 titanium with sync3

after having some unrelated work to the car done a few days ago (water ingress, window motor & air con) i noticed today i could no longer get any FM channels, and then when i select DAB i get a message that says "5A dab station not available", and when i go the option that shows an ensemble + & -, all i get is a spinning wheel as if its searching for something that it never finds.

when i select sources > FM, it flashes a BBC 4 FM station we had before for about half a second then the display reverts to the AM options, i can't select the FM option at all to tune, scan or anything, coz it does the same everytime i press the FM button

i dont know if the DAB option worked before, but the FM definately did.

i have updated to the latest firmware, performed many master & soft resets to no joy

i did some googling and found something here reporting the same issue, but it's full of buzz words and acronyms that mean nothing to me https://community.cyanlabs.net/t/help-only-am-frequency-no-fm/4638, such as what the hell is ACM, 'asbuilt', quellan, APIM, they mean nothing to me.

i can connect my iphone via bluetooth and play music fine, somewhere i read that a rear dashcam can cause interference so i stitched it off even though i didnt have a problem before, so after a frustrating afternoon and no joy i just don't know what else to try or where to turn.

i will contact the dealer i bought the car from to see if they have any ideas what might have occurred, and they are very good and i'm happy witrh them, but the problem is they are a toyota dealer and not ford, so i hoped to find some ford experts here before contacting them to shed some light as i suspect they may not have come across this before.

anyhoo, any help appreciated.

thanks

Bob

Has any work been carried out on the tailgate, or roof lining near the tailgate ?

That's an antennae issue not a fault with the ACM (head unit)

The APIM is the screen

Check the receiver hasn't been dislodged or disconnected

Thanks, but where is the reciever located on my MkIV titanium focus.please, and is it the same thing as the RF reciever, coz when i google i get plenty of hits but none seem specific to my model. It looks like it may be possibly under the roof lining but where? and how do i get to it. Im reasonably handy but no motor expert

thanks again

If you answer my question, then I can answer yours 🤔

Hi Unofix, thanks for the offer to help, but not as far as i know, the work done was for water ingress in the passenger seat footwell, an eggy smell which meant the aircon needed recharging, and the rear driver side electric window needed re-calibrating as it immediately re-opened when it fully closed.

i have read that rear dashcams can cause an issue with the DAB but i unplugged both my dashcams. im no motor mechanic or expert, but IMHO i wouldnt have thought they would need to go anywhere the headlining, but with cars these days who knows lol.

regards

The wiring for the rear dashcam would go via the headlining and then usually through the rubber flexi tube to the tailgate.

The aerial amplifier/isolator units (2 of them) are located in the very top edge of the tailgate just behind the removable panel.
