Ford Focus Mk2 convertible 2008 boots open

Featured Replies

I have a Ford Focus MK2 2008 convertible. Is there a way to open the trunk without a key or remote if the key is dropped inside the trunk and it closes, while the doors are unlocked?

I thought the rear seats folded down on the Focus CC?  Might be misremembering now though.

No its not

I removed it all but it is locked to the metal frame of the car inside.

That's a shame.

Sadly my CC knowledge is quite limited.  Does the boot only open on the key normally?  Isn't there a button on the boot itself or inside the car at all?

It would be possible to power the boot solenoid directly from the wiring loom if you can find the right wires from the GEM.  But you would need the correct wiring diagram for that, I suspect the CC wiring is quite different to hatchback wiring.

Why doesn't that work if the doors are unlocked?

The switch buttons on the boot lid are known to fail.

If this has happened, there is no other way to open the boot if the key is inside.

This would also be true with the doors unlocked.

As far as I know, most Fords of that era only came with one remote key and one spare plain key, unless you paid extra.

Is the bodywork behind the rear seats solid with no access to the boot space from inside the car?

If it hasn't got remote tailgate release on the fob, there is no way to access the boot, if the switch is dead.

A friend of ours did exactly the same thing and had to cut the boot lid to gain access.

Sorry

Sounds like the fob works but is 'locked' in the boot.  Though it can't be locked if the doors are open.

If the tailgate button is broken anyway, why not just rip it out by any means necessary and bypass it?  Or find the GEM wires and power the solenoid like that.  If the solenoid can be popped on the fob, it must have external control.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well, I meant to say  get another fob programmed

Yes, the actual switch will be generic Focus, but in a unique CC plinth.

I would get a second hand focus hatch switch, drill/cut the plinth to get to the wires from the switch, cut and join the wires to the hatch switch and it should open, then fit the new CC switch assy.

BUT.

Haven't you got a spare key?

It may be possible to prise the switch assembly out of the boot trim with something like a butter knife.

You could then disconnect the switch, and bridge the two connections to the car's wiring loom with a spare piece of wire.

If the car is unlocked, the boot solenoid should release and the boot should open.

The spare key will most likely be a non-remote plain key. Spare remote keys would have cost extra when the car was new.

You're correct Tom. It can be operated via the wires to the GEM. Any competent DIY'er with a multimeter will be able to do it.
