Should i tune a high mileage diesel?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’ve got a 2011 Fiesta 1.6 TDCi Ti and its currently on 125k miles.

Im looking to get it stage 2 remapped in around 6 months (New exhaust, intake and remap) and a dpf delete as im not doing long trips that often. It will be at about 130k miles at the time i want this done.

Is this a good or a bad idea? (In terms of reliability) The car has FULL service history and has been serviced every year since 2011.

Thanks

I'd budget for injectors and clutch as well at that mileage.  Cambelt has hopefully been done at around 10 years old.  If not, that needs doing asap.

The engine internals are likely to be fine with a bit more power.  It's all the stuff bolted to it that wears out over time.

Also wouldn't bother with a DPF delete nowadays.  Any visible smoke from a DPF equipped vehicle is an MOT fail now.  Also technically illegal if you ever get stopped at the roadside.  How much power are you expecting to get from the stage 2 map?  Intake and  exhaust aren't particularly restrictive on these, not sure they'll be needed unless you're looking for over 150bhp?

Im looking for around 130hp from 95hp.

By exhuast i mean just a back box etc to give it a sound and a cold air intake.

Is there not a worry of my DPF being clogged seeing as im not often doing motorway journeys

Ah yes, Fiesta not Focus.  Was thinking 115ps with VNT.

The DPF is coated on these so should still work fine unless you're only ever doing stop start town traffic.

HDi-Tuning have tested their maps with the DPF still fitted.
