p0087 - low fuel rail pressure - 800kpa (116psi) - thx

Featured Replies

Hi

1.0 ecoboost 100ps 5yo, 20,000 miles.   Drove ok, parked up, 2 days later started but vv poor idle, would not rev at all, p0087

(My 80yo dad ford - not fiesta, bus same engine)

Only code is p0087 Fuel rail/system pressure too low.

The pressure being reported is 800kpa ish, bit of fluctuation but not much really.

Checked my 1.0 ecoboost 140ps which is almost the same, but different fuel pump, and mine is 3000kpa and goes over 10,000kpa when revving.

Low pressure fuel pump primes.  Fuel is coming it, it does idle, badly.

I'm thinking high pressure fuel pump, which I think is J1BG-9D376-AA looking at pictures (2 threaded connections, not one thread one clip), but this isn't available anywhere new, including the parts supplier to local garages nor Ford direct! (On back order, may be many weeks if at all!!).  So hence can't throw it at a garage as they'll just sit on it.

Bought an ebay second hand pump which I hope to compare or swap.

Could be stuck injector, will remove plugs and check for wetness.

Was filled up locally, but no facebook moans from anyone else local (and there would be lol) so think fuel is OK.   Sensor reading low, so if it was sensor it'd try and up the pressure, and the injectors would limit their flowrates so don't think its sensor.

Is there a pressure relief valve that may be stuck open/failed?

Any other tests or thoughts?

Thanks from me and my 80yo dad who needs the car 😞

For completeness:  fixed

£50 part off ebay - simple swap (T45 + 8mm sockets and 17mm spanner)

Think the solenoid valve on the high pressure pump had failed - mechanically it looked perfect no mechanical scoring etc.
