Using Fiesta as a base for weekend camping.

Featured Replies

I’m a Fiesta owner in the States. I have been slowly working on my own camping setup and trying to refine it into something that is comfortable, easy to load, setup and knockdown. I’m just wondering if I am missing something that could be an improvement over my setup or maybe share thoughts about what works better for this adaptation of the Fiesta to camping use.

I started with a simple two person tent and the usual camping gear that would be taken on a three or four day outing that would not include any restaurant prepared meals. Which means I would be cooking meals and bring food.

I have created a rear seat delete/ cargo floor for my ST. I am thinking that I can go there to escape from very bad weather and be minimally comfortable.

I added a trailer hitch and a carrier basket for the equipment and tent. I made use of a tough box storage container to keep it all organized and dry in transit. I made multiple modifications to the basket and created an adapter that raised the basket and brought it closer to the rear bumper. I wanted to be able to see the top of the container and not have it buffeted by the wake of the vehicle.

I added a reverse camera to allow me to see when in reverse because the view is somewhat reduced.

Have you fitted your car with a mains inverter, just to give you a little emergency power ?

This inverter seems to be adequate for now. I can charge it (the secondary battery) off the vehicle battery and then isolate it while in use or I can run it off both batteries if I am careful and run the engine to maintain the batteries.

I have fitted a 2000 watt inverter to an additional sealed battery that is under the load floor. I have not powered much of anything bigger than a coffee maker, so far. I also found some 12 volt  LED lights that are perfect for the tent and provide enough light to easily read a book. My stove is bottled gas and I have a Hibachi grill as well. I was thinking about what others are doing regarding the power choices!
