Sync 2 not working

Featured Replies

Hi not sure where my original post went. Just posting again.

I have a 2016 ford focus. After the MOT I got a message on the display screen, "battery saving, system off". I took it back to be told I needed a new battery. I wasnt convinced so I charged the battery and reset it which done nothing. I got a new battery and it was fitted. The ford sign came up on the screen and then disappeared. The screen continues to stay black. I have done a soft reset and disconnected the battery again. It has been on a diagnostic machine and no fault is coming up. I hit eject for the CD amd it says entertainment at the bottom of the screen but the rest is black. Not sure what else to do, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Using a digital multimeter, what is the battery terminal voltage now ?

I got a new battery so it should be 100%

Only if you fully charged it before fitting.

Guys I sorry im not understanding. Do I need to charge a new battery to get my sync display unit and radio to work?

Probably not, but you should always fully charge a new battery for 12 hours before fitting it.

I guess you don't have a multimeter since you didn't answer the question about the battery voltage, so it's kind of difficult to begin a fault finding process without basic information.

The mechanic fitted the battery for me. I was relying on him. Would it be worth while taking it out and charging it again?

Are you competent enough to disconnect the battery?

If so, do a hard reset:

Turn on ignition but do not start engine

drop driver's window

disconnect battery negative cable

cover the negative pole with a cloth or anything to prevent contact

Disconnect battery positive cable

If the two cables reach each other, touch and hold them together for a couple of minutes ENSURE THEY DO NOT TOUCH BATTERY TERMINALS

If they don't reach, bridge them with a piece of wire and follow above

Reconnect positive battery cable

reconnect negative battery cable

Start vehicle and see if it comes back

If not check fuses

Hi, thanks for the reply so I took it to another fella who done that with the new battery.  Still nothing. We looked at the fuses and none seem blown. Going to change them any way today to see.

Did he do exactly that? In that order?

Maybe not the window or the ignition on actually. I will give it a go when my friend is over so he can help me and let you know. Thanks

So done a hard reset and followed the exact steps. The sync came up on the screen to start with then went blank again. The photo is all I'm getting if I hit display or eject the cd.

Looks done for, I'm afraid

If I got a new radio unit from scrap yard would that fix it or would is it connected to some computer further in?

I'm not sure on Sync 2 Elaine, but my guess is a replacement screen.

I know Sync3 is a separate APIM for the screen

Someone will be along to tell you

  • Author

Thanks Dave for your help. I had read somewhere that it might be the APIM.

If you're planning on keeping the car, why don't you upgrade to Sync 3?

  • Author

Question about the upgrade. Is the upgrade software I need to plug in or is it like a new headset?

You have to change the hardware, screen etc, but you may have to change the screen anyway, perfect time to upgrade
