Fault codes MK2.5 Ford Focus 2008

Featured Replies

Hi

My car does seem alright, on idle its not perfcet but the car is quite old. Ive currently got these fault codes which I think are electrical, I could only find the below thread on it, I think its all alright, just wanted to double check. P0458-Powertrain, PO646-A/C Clutch Relay control circuit low P1632 Powertrain-Tap for mutliple decsriptions, P1632-Powertrain Theft Deterrant-Feul Disabled. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If the model and year in your thread title is correct, and it's not the one in your profile, it might just be the common instrument cluster cracked solder joint problem (assuming it's never been resoldered).

If you've not seen any of the many threads on this issue it's caused by the use of lead-free solder which becomes brittle over time. The joints on the main connector start to crack due to the natural vibration in the car and can throw up all kinds of random faults.

Just had a though, I do think I got the instrment cluster done for £100 couple year back though?

It was the theft deterrant code that made me suspect the solder joint problem. If it's been resoldered they are probably genuine codes, although if the joints were reflowed rather than having the solder replaced with the proper tin-lead type it is just possible they've cracked again.

I'd also suggest clearing the codes and seeing which (if any) come back, all those codes could potentially be years old and not currently 'active'.

Thanks, the codes always come back even when cleared.  Im not to bothered as doesent seem to be a problem with the car, do you think I should get them fixed, its quite an old car now, im not too bothered unless someone suggests its a serious issue.
