1.0 Ecoboost Lacks power, Misfire code P0303 ...sometimes

Featured Replies

Hi, Hope the Fiesta Brain Trust can help me out.

I have a 2013 (62 Plate) 1.0 Ecoboost 125.

Friday - Started to really lack power and was running rough.  When I got it home a cheap Bluetooth OBD showed P0300 (random, Multiple Cylinders misfire) and P0303 (Cyl 3 misfire) and the CEL on.

Saturday - That cylinders spark plug was a bit grimy and wet so confirmed the cylinder issue. I changed all three coil packs and spark plugs and it was 98% fine - Pulled well and drove almost as expected.  It did seem slightly hesitant at low revs but so slight that I wasn't sure.  Idled slightly rough also.  Toped up the coolant (engine temp was fine BTW) and the oil was on min so topped that up too.  I wondered if the very slight hesitation and slight roughness was down to Cyl being manky from misfiring.

Sunday - Its back to running rough as it was on Friday.  CEL comes on intermittently and gives the same error codes.  Once cleared it still drives terribly and shows no code or CEL.

I'm sure this has happened to other 1.0 Ecoboost owners and hope someone can let me know what fixed theirs.

Thanks folks

See If your ecoboost is part of the current recall https://www.ford.co.uk/support/recalls

Nothing to lose If it's not, a friend had similar misfires, rough idling and it was part of the wetbelt debarcle with ecoboosts. Goodluck.

Cheers Darkstate.

No such luck on the recall front. Good call though.

since my OP I’ve got a endoprobe for my phone and got a short video. Two stills should appear below. Guess which one is Cyl 3 and which is cyl 2.
No blue smoke as I drive though.

im thinking valve stem seals or Head Gasket, maybe piston rings.   Oil isn’t creamy.

I'm thinking more likely a new engine on a 2013 ecoboom.

Have the wetbelts been changed ?

Is the wetness definitely oil or could it be coolant? You mention you needed to top up both.

Are you seeing an increase in vapour/smoke from the exhaust?

@McYoon Did you take it to a mechanic yet?

Curious on the outcome.

Update.

No blue of white smoke from exhaust. No mixing of oil and water.
it’s no it had it’s belts changed but that’s not the issue.

Took it to a garage and they changed the plugs again and it seems to be running ok. Not convinced it’ll last though. Can’t drive it at the moment due to two worn out suspension arms needing changed along with two new tyres so after that’s done I’ll get a better idea how well it’s going. I’ll be changing the oil straight after and getting a probe in to look at the oil strainer to see if it’s blocked at all.
