Hi

My girlfriend has recently had some issues with her car.  Last week she arrived home and the car had lost coolant.  Called out the AA who took it to the garage who confirm the water pump had gone.  Water pump and belt has been replaced under an extended warranty scheme she got when she purchased the car 2 years ago.  When she brought it home last night I checked the coolant and it seemed low already (picture attached we are on a little hill so it's just above minimum).  She went back today and they've filled the coolant back.  They claim they have checked and there is no other issues with the engine but I'm not convinced.  The engine feels hot even an hour or so after it's been turned off although the digital temperature gauge is showing 4 bars.  It's 1.25 Zetec so not the Ecoboost engine.  Has anyone got any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

If the coolant has dropped and it now smells hot I would first check for air in the system

Check there is no oil in the coolant or white mayonnaise in the oil filler cap..if not I would check daily and top up when required..mine is a 2009 and it self bled itself..maybe yours is the same..

Sure someone will check for you

Checked under oil cap which looks clean.  Also doesn't appear to be blowing out white smoke out of the exhaust.  I will keep an eye on coolant.  This is what the coolant looks like whilst running is that normal?

Looks fine.  Probably just not bled properly the first time.  Although they should self-bleed with the cap off, it doesn't always work, and they don't always wait long enough for the 'stat to open.

Coolant would've been pink/orange originally, hopefully that blue stuff is compatible as I doubt they drained the full system first.
