2002 Mk5 Fiesta 1.4 16v petrol - Clutch

Featured Replies

I replaced the clutch, clutch plate and clutch slave cylinder (thrust bearing), the car ran fine for weeks but then it started juddering when I accelerated, now the car rev's really high and doesn't go anywhere, clutch slip.

What can be the cause of this seeing as there is a new clutch in it?

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm at my wits end now

Badly fitted clutch. Is the friction plate fitted the right way around ?

thank you for getting back to so quickly.

I can't see how I could get it wrong. Yes, the friction plate is definitely the right way around, surely if it was the wrong way around it wouldn't work from the get go, or could I be wrong about that also?

What brand was it?  Hopefully not Transmech...

*****,Yes, it was a Transmech from Euro car parts. Is there a problem with these clutch's then?

Yes, they're sh*t.

What actually goes wrong with this brand of clutch? would it be possible for me to fit the part that doesn't work, i.e. friction plate, pressure plate or the slave cylinder? I have read quite a few reviews regarding ECP and the hassle of getting your money back.

The quality is just very poor overall tbh.  I suspect the diaphragm has at least partly come away from the plate so there's little to no clamping force.  Could also be a blown seal in the slave, leaking brake fluid onto the friction plate, but then you should notice a dodgy pedal feel and drips on the floor.

Sadly you're only going to know by pulling the gearbox out again.

Yes.  That was always my preferred brand.
