1.0 ecoboost wet belt issue

Featured Replies

My car oil light started flashing while I was driving on the motorway. The car started to loose power, I limped off at next junction and found a garage, the mechanic took 1 look at the car and said it would be the wet belt degrading and blocking the oil intake. We had the car transported home. If I start it now the oil light does not come on. I've enquired about repairs and have had estimates from 1k to 2k plus anything else that may be damaged and one who wanted to write the engine off. Given the oil light came on what are the chances there will be more serious damage and the car will be a write off? Any advice if I do get it replaced? It's a 67 plate so seems early from what I've read.

First thing to say is don't be starting your car until the problem has been properly diagnosed. There is a risk you could make things worse. I'm assuming your car has a 1.0 ecoboost engine?

You don't mention any recording of fault codes. Did the mechanic notify you of any/do you have an OBD reader, preferably Forscan?

67 reg does seem early for the belt/pump problem to have arisen but you haven't mentioned current mileage?. Hopefully it's some less serious issue and that limp mode was the reason for reduced power.

Yes my car is 1.0 ecoboost. 62k on the clock

I broke down beside a garage I guy came out with a tablet plugged it in to the car there was no faults no fault codes, then his mate came out and said there won't be, his opinion was wet belt problem and or blockage of oil pick up I started it to get it off truck on to drive, the light doesn't come on and engine sounds fine

Be careful about assuming it’s fine. We have a 16 plate 1.0 ecoboost fiesta and had a similar problem at 6 years old and 40k miles. Local garage said it’s likely wet belt and didn’t want to touch it. Took it to ford who replaced sump and a bunch of other things and sent us on our way 2k lighter. Less than a year later the light came back and we had to shell out another 2k to have the belt replaced amongst other things. Less than a year later and the light is on again. Ford tried to tell us it was the belt so we asked them to check notes and fix it on warranty. Suddenly the diagnosis changed to cam shaft and they want another 2k.

I think we are going to cut our losses on this. We could probably have bought a brand new engine for less than we’ve spent so far and it’s still not right. The sickening thing is that we bought the car from this dealer and they don’t seem to give a damn.

That's ***** worrying,just replaced belts lately,

Hoping to God that was it sorted for at least another 6 years

I've switched back to my old Suzuki ignis hybrid auto import,

No issues,

My sons got my ecoboost, belts done, new tyres , new pump ,fairly low mileage,

Can't afford to put anymore into it for him for year's

So hope it'll last
