Ford Galaxy fuel economy - what do you get?

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently bought a 2018 plate diesel 2ltr manual Galaxy. It seems less fuel efficient than the 2010 2ltr that we previously had. For mixed driving we now get around 38-42mpg and around 550-580 miles to a tank.

I’m wondering if that’s normal or lower than I should be getting? Any feedback on what you’re getting from comparable Galaxy appreciated.

Cheers

Same here. 180 engine. Getting around 38-40 around town but high 40's on a long run. My old 2006 Euro 4 2.0 TDCi was better but then it was lighter and did not have all the emissions carp on it. It also felt faster.

Thanks Paul. Sounds like I’m getting what the newer Galaxy should give, just not as good as the old one. Cheers

Leeds to Eastbourne, we averaged 46 mpg for the entire trip (down the A1 as my wife also drove some of the way as she has L plates)

I assume she's hoping to soon be a qualified wife 🤣

Only been 18 years married , so hopefully soon 😉

The 180 models are AWD and they suck the Juice, I have a 180 AWD Auto and locally 35-37 MPG after a remap, motorway 47MPG.

That’s ace, thanks. Since posting I’ve had the VVT solenoid replaced and now getting similar to you on long runs.

That’s seems a decent return given a Galaxy is a pretty big 4WD.

Not exactly comparable to yours but I have the 2017 2.0d twin turbo FWD auto (6spd) and a heavy right foot. I average upper 30s with mid 40s on a motorway. Usually just over 500 miles per tank.

I have 2016 Galaxy (since new) 2 wheel drive with 180 engine. Getting long term average  40 - 43.  Mixture city /open road. Have used (only) Shell super diesel since new which is supposed to give better consumption. My old 2010 galaxy with 130 engine was much better at 48 - 55 average over 75000 miles.  I queried at the time as to why getting so much less and was told it would increase after a few thousand miles as "engine  loosened". I'm now on 80,000 miles and its not improved any. If anything, fuel economy is now getting steadily worse but I put that down to perpetual roadworks plus council designed local road closures which have created stop/start bottlenecks. Also council installed multiple speed bumps in all surrounding streets ( I have to navigate 11 speed bumps in the 300 yards from road to my house. Council say they want to reduce emissions but I can't see how creating traffic jams would ever be better for the environment. I'm resigned to getting about 43 average, which does seem good given size of car.
