Ford fiesta 2013 lock change.

Featured Replies

Hi I have just purchased a ford fiesta 2013 1L ecoboost MK7 for my son. The passenger door lock has been damaged and the key doesn’t open it anymore central locking is working fine and the car starts.

I was thinking of getting a second hand lock and ignition barrel from scrapyard and changing it over which I can do myself. The issue I am not sure about is the ignition lock is it easy to swap the barrel only on the ignition if so how do you remove the barrel and change over with out damaging or causing issues with the immobiliser.  I would change over the fob electronics to the new key and get a new key programmed to the car by an auto electrician.

any help welcomed.

Regards Richard

The ignition barrel can be removed easily when you still have the key blade for it.  Turn it to position 2, then there's a small locking tab that can be released using a small screwdriver.

I'm a bit confused about the other parts though.  Only the blade needs to be changed when swapping barrels.  You can keep the main fob with both immobiliser and remote locking parts in tact and just swap the blade over.

Hi Tom many thanks for this, do I need to remove the trim around the steering column or is this all accessible. I will swap the blades over sorry didn’t think of this.

kind regards Richard

You will need to remove the plastic trim to access the outside of the barrel.
