Engine malfunction service now

Featured Replies

I got this notification on a dash a couple months back and brought it to the mechanic and he said new fuel injectors, got genuine Ford injectors (cost me €1500), was driving grand around the town, small journeys, not passed 4th gear or for longer than 10-15 mins, then my first longs journey to Dublin zoo it popped up again, brought it back he changed some valve another €150, driving grand then back to college and my first long journey it comes up again, then again the next day, it’s not storing on the dash, when I turn car off and on it disappears, and it only seems to pop up on long journeys, just wondering what would cause this or if anyone has anything similar, i think it might have to do with something heating up as it only happens when I’ve been driving the car on longer journeys, mechanic has advised to sell it on but im just back to college and don’t want to deal with that hassle, and I’ve put near 2000 in repairs in it. Brought it to another mechanic and he said it could just be a lose wire somewhere causing it to pop up. It’s also worth to mention when it comes up the car doesn’t go into limp mode, I feel the accelerator kick back and it doesn’t accelerate as quick but I can still get to 100-120km. Any solutions or advise welcome. Thanks

Do you know whether your mechanic ran any diagnostics before advising you needed those parts? I would advise getting a copy of FORScan for a Windows laptop (free download) or for Andoid (small charge) together with the appropriate OBD cable or dongle. @unofix should be along shortly with full details.

yeah they plugged it in and originally came up saying “fuel injector 1&2 offset leaning at max” something along those lines, then the second one it was some generic code for a few issues.

You need to use Ford specific diagnostic software if you are to read all of the Ford DTC's.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

I talked to the mechanic there and he said it’s saying “ no communication with bcm and ecu”, that adapter piece youve linked, I plug that into the charging port in the car and it will tell me what’s wrong?

I’ve gotten the FORscan for IOS, when I put it in thought I’m not reading any errors, even though the engine malfunction service now message popped up this morning when I was driving it.

Did you plug in straight away or switch the engine off in between?  Some codes get erased when the engine is switched off.

I didn’t get any codes so when I was driving up today and it came up “ engine malfunction service now “, I left it on until I parked, plugged it in and got the code P2599, which says “turbocharger control position sensor A performance- Stuck high “ , so I assume some sensor is broke and I should just replace it ? Seems a bit weird that a sensor could cause such a serious error notification   Though, can anyone confirm that the sensor being broke would cause that error ? Just incase I’ve picked it up wrong, thanks again for the help lads.

Yes, that fault does trigger limp mode.  It is preventing any engine damage that could be caused by overboost.

That sensor is the one on the end on the turbo actuator.  On some engines you will need to buy a whole actuator, on others the sensor can be replaced separately.  It is not necessarily a sensor fault, could be an issue with wiring or turbo, but generally it is just the sensor.

The car isn’t going into limp mode. It’s just popping up the notification and I’ll feel a kick on the accelerator and it feels like it’s taking longer to accelerate but I can still maintain high speeds.

That is limp mode on this engine.  It limits the turbo boost but you can still eventually get to 70mph...as long as it's not uphill.

Got similar issues any resolution?

Replace the engine.

N75 perhaps?
