2016 Fiesta bonnet release damaged

Featured Replies

Evening all, first post, and unfortunately it's a desperate one.

Anyone ever had this happen?

I think the mechanism is damaged - no one can get the bonnet open.

Anyone know how easy/difficult a job it is, or how much a garage will charge?

Cheers

Has the cable come away from the lever inside the car?  It will be possible to release the first catch using a long screwdriver either from the grill side or by reaching up from the engine side, but I've never needed to do it on a Fiesta.

Garage costs will depend entirely on which part is broken.

Heck our bonnet release stopped working after about 6 years, nothing happened on pulling the lever, there was no tension on the wire whatsoever, I blasted the hell to the area of the latch with WD40, through the bonnet edge & grille, also spraying upwards from under the car, we just kept at it pushing the wire back & forth at the lever and pressing on the bonnet directly above the latch, then luckily the bonnet popped up, what a relief that was, the whole latch had rusted up to death, removed the latch and cleaned away all the rust, made sure it worked smoothly, then covered the lot in grease to stop this from ever happening again.

Sounds like an open and shut case 🤣
