ONE CLICK BUT NO START

Featured Replies

Hi all. My fiesta 58 plate diesel won't start. I turn the ignition and get one click from the engine. That's it. (Actually it was making the same click but repetitive after switching the engine off for a while. I don't know if that was normal or not). Ive changed the battery. Still the same issue. One click but won't start. I should add that a couple of months ago I had fluid warning light come on when driving at speed and had quite a bit of oil leak onto the engine. My brother couldn't find the problem and reset the light. it didn't come back on and has been running fine. I have been having a google and one of the problems is oil in the starter motor?? Do any of you have any thoughts? I'm desperate. I have 2 terminally ill parents that need running around and not much spare cash to keep throwing at guesses. Many Thanks

Possibly dead battery or loose terminal at the battery, check both  for tightness. Get multimeter on battery to check voltage. Loose connection to starter motor, these would be first checks before going any further, or possibly starter itself goosed.

Since I don't think Lisa is a hands on mechanic, I think she needs to get an auto-electrician to take a look at it.
