Intermittent starting propblem

Featured Replies

Hi all, hoping you can help,.

Currently got a problem with my wife's 2014 1.6d focus....it's refusing to start when the start button is pressed....all the ignition lights and radio come on but won't start... we're having to lock/unlock the car several times before it starts ,once it's been started it fires up normally after that , until the next morning.

I'm thinking it's maybe a key fob related issue so changed the battery in the fob ,made no difference.....

Any ideas as to possible causes and cures ?

you need to add info like - no crank or not firing up

cluster immobilizer ?

How old is the battery? If it's original that could well be the cause. Has the stop/start been working? I had a similar problem on our old Mk3. It wouldn't crank even after the battery had been on charge overnight on a smart charger that showed it fully charged. All the dash indications were normal. I fitted a new battery (fully charged beforehand), reset the BMS and that fixed it.
