Timing Belt / Water Pump MK 3.5 Focus 1.5 EcoBoost.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Our second car is coming up for a service in the next few months, its also coming up to 10 years old as its a 2015 model.

Am I correct that we should consider having the timing belt and water pump changed due to the age (10 years) and not because of the mileage (64,000) ?

Also is there any benefit in having this done at the same time as a service ? i.e does it requre an oil change etc.

Local Ford dealer (Doncaster) has quoted £750 for the timing belt and water pump, is this about average or should I look at an independent garage ?

Thanks

Mark

Yes, the belt is recommended at 10 years as it's low mileage.

There is a small amount of time saved having the spark plugs done at the same time as belt, because the cam cover is removed for cam locking.   But the plugs are not part of the 10th year service anyway.  As this is a dry belt, there is no need for an oil change at the same time.

Prices for this engines belt seem to vary.  It is a bit more complex than the non-turbo 1.6 on which it is based, but much less complex than the 1.0 EcoBoost.  £750 sounds reasonable for a Ford dealer to me.  An indy may be able to knock ~£100 off.

Thanks Tom for your quick reply, much appreciated.

Seeing as you're only down the road in Donny why not try Pumaspeed up here in Wakefield for a quote as I believe they specialize in this sort of thing...
