Badly worn drive belt Fiesta 1.25 11 Plate

Featured Replies

After putting off replacing the drive belt for weeks, it's finally decided to eat itself and is badly worn/threaded on one side of the belt. Most of it is intact with one section threaded partially. I need to drive about 8 miles to the garage.

I dont want to get it recovered because

A/ cost

B/ car is parked in a low height underground car park

C/ waiting time

Would it be ok to drive that final last 8 miles or so? Roads are all 30mph high street speeds

Send your best hopes and prayers. Namaste XD

I've seen snapped aux belts take out the cambelt when they go.  Presumably causes a sudden jerk through the crank pulley.  I wouldn't risk it for 8 miles myself.

You can drive the car a short distance with the belt completely removed.  That would get it out of the carpark safely.  But as the waterpump is run by the aux belt on these, I wouldn't suggest running it like that for more than a few minutes.

So, err, good luck I guess.

The car made it. All fixed. £80 all in. Surprisingly, the drive belt made absolute zero squeals
