MK8 Rear Inner Light Issue

Featured Replies

I have a mk8 fiesta and the driver side rear inner light doesn't work, only the reverse section lights up when reversing. I've believe the wiring needs replacing but I just can't seem to find the exact wiring for it. if anyone knows the exact part number or just any advice it would be massively appreciated!

What leads you to that conclusion?

after having a look at the wiring there is a white wire which is supposed to plug into a connector but it is broken and doesn't go in. not sure what its for but my guess is that is the cause of the issue.

Can you post a photo of it so we can further determine what may be the issue. If it is a simple wire that is 'broken' it should be an easy repair rather than seeking a new wiring loom...

This is the wire which doesn't go into the connection. I replaced the actual unit of the rear light but that didn't fix the issue which is what is causing me to believe this may be the cause. its worth noting that my boot lights don't work either. I took the car to a mechanic and there was power running through on both sides too.

That cable isn't for lighting.  It's an antenna, probably for DAB radio.

Did the mechanic, who fixes cars for a living, give no indication of the possible fault?

Nope haha he wasn’t the best let’s just say… took it to a few other places and they aren’t sure either. It’s a right pain in the a**, unsure what to do

You said you replaced the light unit itself and only the reverse light works. Is there a way you can temporarily plug that light cluster into the LHS to see if it works. If it doesn't, the cluster is at fault. If it does work, the wiring is at fault... just a suggestion.

Has that light ever worked in the time you have owned the car ?

Unfortunately no. Was bought as a cat car with a collision on the rear side

What’s wrong with that mate lmao?

You have no provenance to the damage, or how it was caused. If it were my car, I'd take it to a reliable local autospark and get them to fix it, that's their bread & butter rather trying to guess...

The damage could be many things. Has it got the correct rear light assembly fitted on the side that's not working ? There are two or even possibly 3 different versions but they all look very similar.

The wiring could well be damaged/broken. We have already seen in your first photo that the aerial cable (possibly for DAB is broken). You need an auto-electrician with the full Ford wiring schematics to fault find. The actual problem is very probably quite minor but finding it without the diagnostic skills and diagrams would be very difficult.
