CAM BELT REPLACEMENT

Featured Replies

My son has just had to spend £2500 to have his cambelt changed even though his car has only done 32500 miles as the

ford dealer stated that it was not the mileage of the car but the age as the belt is immersed in oil

this has now been shown to be a design fault as later models have been changed to a chain

can the money be claimed back from ford , his car is a 64 plate

Dry cambelts still have to be replaced at 10 years old.

The oil pump belt on the later chain driven 1.0 EcoBoost also needs to be replaced at 10 years old.

This is a standard maintenance procedure.  It is not Fords fault that he didn't drive the car far in 10 years.

£2500 is the higher end of the prices we've seen for the belt change though.  It is available more cheaply if he'd shopped around.

Belts on various makes have a mileage/time (whichever comes first) replacement stipulation, some as little as 5 years. If you never drive the car at all, it will still deteriorate with age.
