gearbox + clutch replacement

Featured Replies

the cursed ib5 gearbox has been the bane of my existence the past few months, new 1st and 2nd synchros and lube which set me back £650, grinding within a week, after i took it back the mechanic and he 'replaced the hubs'. and i kid you not the same day i was greeted with that unbearable grind.

the mechanic said to me 'if it goes wrong again its not to do with me'

whether thats because it genuinely isnt to do with him or what he did wasn't done to a correct standard I dont know

anyways i've decided to bite the bullet and ordered a whole ib5 gearbox from ebay, from a 1.0 with 30kish miles on the clock, while getting the gearbox fitted would it be advisable to also replace the clutch for this uprated one?

i was thinking, if i did get this uprated clutch.

- would it be worth getting it fitted with the gearbox to reduce labour costs

- will an uprated clutch help the gearbox handle the torque from the engine? its currently running around 240nm of torque.

any advice would be much appreciated, thanks guys!

I would fit the standard clutch as you have a standard engine.

Unless you know the clutch has been changed recently then yes, change the whole clutch kit

They have to remove the box to change the clutch and they're doing that anyway, so extra labour to swap out the clutch should be minimal
