Reinstalling tailgate wiring grommet

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I’m struggling with the left grommet going from the roof inside the car into the tailgate. I can’t seem to put the grommet back so that the grommet lip is inside the car body. I’ve tried going round it tucking the lip in with a flat head but it gets too tight  once you reach halfway and can’t carry on tucking it in. It’s also impossible to tuck the lip in round the back as I can’t fit the tool round there.

The grommet should fit over the plastic clip and then be pushed inside the body all at once so it looks sealed like the right side (pictures attached). Only the plastic clicks in and the rubber stays outside completely as shown in this video. Due to this, water has been leaking in through the grommet.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to install it properly.

Hi There, Install the back side as you cannot see it well, Use washing up liquid

or Vaseline but only a very small amount on recess in rubber seal. Use small

slotted screwdriver to lubricate recess seal. Then work sides then front to

push rubber that goes behind metal plate. Using small to medium flat bladed

screwdriver.

     Hope that helps
