Featured Replies

I have just purchased a 2002 green fiesta which is in amazing condition with 24k on the clock

I would like to protect it from the weather in Lancashire! Any advice on best type of covers and are there any out there for sale?

thanks

Try ebay for 100s of listings - good luck with your new car...

Cheap car covers damage the paint.  If you really want to protect it, get it indoors in a dry area.

If you're going to drive it regularly, have it professionally paint corrected and then sealed with a ceramic coating.

Your definition and mine of 'cheap' are very different 🤣 I bought a cover a while back in Lidl for sub £20, some of those Ebay listings approach £150 LOL

I've had this discussion with relatives before.  Just because they overpaid for an item doesn't make it good quality!

Anyway, car covers either trap water against the paint and haze/lift the lacquer, or they're made of scratchy plastic that rubs the paint in the wind no matter how tight they appear to be.  Can always tell the cars that have been covered at car shows...at least for those of us tall enough to see the rooves!

Hence my adoration for Lidl LOL The tools they sell are usually German made, meet very high TUV standards, and are excellent value for money. My garage is full of them. Big fan of your ethos that you don't have to spend big to get quality...

Heck! We had a lovely Peugeot 405 GR back in the 90's with ultra low miles on it, like brand new it was, we decided to stop using it and thought it could be an investment in later years, so we fully covered the car to protect it from the elements, on windy days you could see the cover fluttering, didn't think nothing off it, six months on we decided to remove the cover and have a look, by heck was we in for a shock, Where the cover had been fluttering the paint was matt with ridges along the bonnet just like you see sand on the sea shore when the tide had gone out, this was all over the roof & bonnet but on both front wing tops it had actually worn the lacquer away to the base coat, We was gutted to see this mess, the roof & bonnet took a few hours to wet flat & polish back up, but the front wings needed re-lacquering, if you looked hard enough you could see where it had gone down to the base coat, fell out of love with it so we sold ours in 1998 because we hated how the front wings looked.

405 are now making decent money these days, especially things like the Mi16 - GR - SRi - GTX.

Not wrong about car covers! Son had his car ceramic coated two years ago, it literally stays clean and muck sheets off, only parts that get dotty is the wheels, ceramic is unreal.
