Reset focus Tdci PCM

Featured Replies

Hi all, in context of the problem regarding the 2 codes showing up ref glow plug control module. I have replaced the module with a new one from the Bay of E. No difference on the codes, still there after deleting them and re-checking with Forscan. Checked all fuses in the engine bay fuse box no  faults. Checked the relay in same fuse box and all good.                                                                                            Now wondering whether to try resetting the PCM by disconnecting the battery and connecting the positive cable to the negative cable for around 10 minutes so they say, then reconnecting the battery and taking the car for a longish drive for it to relearn.

Can anyone comment on this please?                                                                                                                  Regards Barrie

Hi Barrie, that's disappointing news. A good old fashioned power down often clears strange faults. Personally I'd only disconnect the negative battery lead and lead it off for about 20 minutes.

Shorting the battery leads together (while disconnected) will be OK but not needed.

Hi Unofix, Thanks for the reply. I will do as you suggest, I have to take SWIMBO to a meeting tomorrow so around 45 mins all round so possibly re-learn my driving style?

Will post all findings, if it doesn't work next is start checking wiring looms, ohh the joys.

Thanks Barrie

Well , powered down for 30 mins, drove to Blackpool to pick up SWIMBO and home about 20 mls overall and checked on return. Both codes are present again, cleared and again they came back. Next job is to check each glow plug and go from there!                                               Cheers All     Barrie

Further update. Thought I would check glow plugs, they are at the back so looked for the wiring loom, lo and behold there is a plug just behind the fuel filter so I thought Hmmm get the multi meter out, clip on a good earth and uncle Bob is going on.                                                      Separate said plug and there are 4 contacts relevant to glow plugs available to check. I set the meter to 200K ohms and got a reading of 0.09 on all 4 contacts therefore assuming all glow plugs are ok. Next job is try to ascertain which contacts are relevant to the operation of the control unit. So remove headlight and check for continuity as far as I can.

Cheers Barrie
