Fiesta ecoboost cambelt

Featured Replies

May seem a trivial request, but I have a Fiesta ecoboost (Reg. DK20 OFD) with a conventional cambelt which gives me some assurance, but I understand that the engine still uses a wet belt for the oil pump. Does this mean that the engine could still be a 'Ticking Time Bomb' ?

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Assuming that you have the newer 1.0 Ecoboom engine it has a timing chain, not a belt. It does still retain the small oil pump wet belt that has to be replaced every 10 years MAXIMUM, or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

It's too soon to say with these newer engines just how often they will go 'boom' but if the wet belt for the oil pump fails you should have a minute (or even two, if you're lucky) to switch off and avoid catastrophic engine damage.

Thanks for quick reply.

Maybe it is an older engine, but there is definately a rubber belt outside to the left of the engine, so who knows what I have under the bonnet!

As it would appear that I may still have problems in the future, I am !wondering if I should get rid, even though it has only covered 31,800 miles and try another manufacturer which is a shame cos I really like the car.

Anyway,

Thanks again

That would be the auxiliary drive belt (used to be known as the fan belt).

Post a photo of your engine and we will be able to say what it is.

Will do as soon as it gets light, tomorrow I think.

Thanks for reply

Hi,

Looked on You Tube, and you were spot on, it is indeed the auxiliary belt.

Thanks for your interest.
