Ford Fiesta MK6 2009 leak

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I have a leak in my Fiesta MK6. 😔

Recently, we had rainy weather, and I noticed condensation on my rear window. Upon further inspection, the floor mats in the back on both the passenger and driver's side were soaking wet. The passenger side in the front was also wet, and the trunk was damp as well.

After doing some research, I sealed the known issue around the tailgate. After thoroughly drying everything, it seemed that no more moisture was coming in. However, now I'm finding moisture UNDER the front passenger seat. This seems like too much to be "old" water, but I'm unsure if it could just be that it hasn't had a chance to dry properly as it is not easy to ventilate this part. A more likely issue could be water leaking behind the inner door seals. Upon further inspection, it looks like water is dripping down along the door seals from the top all the way to the bottom. The source seems to be at the upper corner of the windshield. It appears as though two metal plates are coming together, and water is seeping in between them.

In my opinion, this could possibly be caused by a leak in the windshield seal, but it might also be due to a leak under the roof molding. A problem with the windshield seems more unlikely to me, as there is water under the rear passenger seat while the floor wells in the front passenger side are less moist. The roof moldings are original and have been glued in place. I've read online that these moldings can be re-glued. Does anyone have experience with leaks coming from under the roof molding? Or should I focus more on the windshield?

I look forward to your response.

Kind regards

Yes, thank you. I do not actually live in the UK, but the Netherlands doesn't have such an active forum. Hope you won't mind!

I guessed that you were not English.

Windshield = Windscreen 🤣

Has the windscreen ever been replaced ? This is a common source of leaks

Oh, my bad! 😅

I think the previous owner had the windscreen replaced, but he didn't mention it. I can see air in other parts under the windscreen where it should not be if it was original.

What makes me doubt a windscreen problem is the water under de passenger seat, while the floor mats in the front are not that wet anymore. Could a roof molding failure leak through the B pillar? Because it is most wet where the B pillar ends.

It's possible, but I've never known it.

Have you checked under the vehicle for corrosion and possible holes in the inner sills ?

Yeah I have, there is no corrosion. Seems like the leak just recently started. Do you have any experience with removing the roof molding?

Thank you for your time.

Sorry no.

Try looking on YouTube, there is bound to be a video 👍
