Fiesta 2003 instantly blowing odometer fuse. Will not start!

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. My fiesta 2003 is completely dead all lights work, battery is showing good voltage. However, the fuse for the generic electrics/ odometer (F20) keeps blowing instantly.

I did have some ticking on the battery saver relay, I have swapped it for a new one how ever the clicking still occurs & still blowing the fuse. Everything works apart from the interior light and the odometer. Which I’m guessing is why the car will not crank over.

Water ingress to the GEM. 🙁

The PATS immobiliser will be preventing the starter motor from cranking.

Will this be a hard one to fix?
Will I need to get a replacement programmed to the car?

What I should ask is will it need programming if I get a replacement as I’ve just searched the part and know where it is

Hi Phil,

Yes it will need programming to your car, and also the car keys will need programmed back in to the replacement GEM

It should be possible on a 2003 Fiesta to do this using FORScan.

F20 is also the supply for the interior lamps, I would suspect the lamp has shorted, remove or switch the lamp switch to the off position to verify.

Thank you both for the help I will look deeper into both of these you have suggested. Hopefully it’s just a short to the interior light that’s coursing the fuse to blow.
