If you are talking about the aluminium pipe running off to the centre right of you photo, that is simply a protective cover over a rubber hose, probably as heat protection.

It looks fine to me.

And if you're talking about the two right-angled metal pipes then they are known for rusting through.

If there's actually a hole then the turbo needs to be replaced.  If it's just a bit rough then it can be sanded back and painted to prolong it's life a bit further.

there seems to be a hole in the hose you mentioned, i attached a more zoomed in image so you can see. when i cold started the car there was some white smoke coming from the turbo which went away eventually.

would some tape round it fix it temporarily? i’m not in the financial position to replace the turbo atm as it’s about to go in for a new gearbox and clutch 😭

unfortunately not. The only fix that works is to replace it. 🙁

Ah, I can now see where the problem is on the zoomed in picture. As said above, it will have to be replaced.

Sorry, as Unofix says. tape won't work there.  It gets ridiculously hot and the glue will just melt.

Is it too thin to weld/braze? Has anyone tried that?

welding surely must be an option, seems excessive to me having to replace my whole turbo over a small hole in it. new turbo + fitting is not cheap at all, im only 18 😅

I'm not sure what that's made of.  Looks like it might be low quality stainless steel?  Also not easy to physically get a welder into that space.

I don't have any welding experience personally though.  I think you'd be best asking a local welder, either taking the car there or showing them a picture.

I don't think brazing is suitable there.  The exhaust temps are likely to get radiated through those pipes and be enough to melt a brazing filler with hard driving.

Try a custom stainless steel exhaust supplier to see if it is possible . They should be well used to welding thin stainless steel sections.
