Mk2.5 Rear door winders - Aftermarket suggestions?

Featured Replies

Hello all, long time lurker.

Focus Mk2.5 2010 zetec. No frills!

Recently I had to replace the check strap on the rear door, so I had the joy of removing the door card. That was all fine and easy, other than the door winder which I really struggled to remove as the clip seemed to have lodged itself and was hard work to remove.

I still need to figure out a problem with the rear speaker, as well as at some point having a professional knock out a dent, both meaning the door card will need to come off again in future.

Before I go and put the old winder back on, has anyone fitted any aftermarket winders that look more attractive than the ugly standard ones and more importantly ones that could be simply unscrewed rather than messing about with clips and magic rags wedged in to remove the damn thing?

I've seen some nice looking metal ones, but of course they need to fit and the seller doesn't know if they'll fit the focus. Has anyone else bought any nicer after market winders that fit well and are easier to remove?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Window winders 🤔 I remember learning about them in a history class 🤣

In answer to your question, I don't know for sure that alternative Ford winders would fit, but Ford always like to use the same fittings on as many models as possible.

A long time ago, a neighbour  'upgraded' his Mini window winders to a brand called Richbrook, I remember the name because I had an aluminum tax disc from them. On a google search, it appears they are no longer available, so I've no idea if this info is of any use whatsoever. They were supplied as a 'universal' fit...

I know, winders are old hat and it's a 14 year old car, but I've had it 10 years and it just works. 120k miles later and it's not cost me much and is like a pair of favourite trainers.

To elaborate, it's more about having winders that are super easy to take off and put on again than aesethics.

As someone who owns an almost 20 year old Focus, I love having rear manual window winders! When washing the car, they allow me to open the rear windows to clean that top inch of glass without having to go get a key to wind them down 😂

Must have been a very upmarket Mini. The ones I drove had sliding windows.

Add a liberal amount of grease before refitting and they'll be easier to get off again
