Tuning advice

After some advice please if anyone can help!

i use a mk2 focus 1.8 Duratec for banger racing, i had it mapped then put some cosworth cams in it to get as much power as possible but unfortunately can not get it running right. Its all spluttery and sounds like its missfiring upto 3000 revs but then coughs and goes like the clappers. Unfortunately this is no good as it corners at about 2000 revs but then has a big delay before it accelerates.
i set the timing with the crank pulley marker at TDC and the notches in the far end of the cams set horizontal. Does anything need to be altered to get it running better?

It needs to be mapped after fitting the cams.  And will need to be a custom remap, not just a generic one.

Ok thank you. Everything else i read said the ecu will adapt after 20 mins of running. Im going to check my timing again but will speak to the guy who mapped it

Not for different cam profiles/valve timing

depending upon how lively the cams are that could be exactly how its meant to run

I spoke to cosworth today and they said that the cams im using are not that extreme and can be used on the road as well. Its as if its flooding with too much fuel too early

when you have silly cams at low revs (off cam periods) half the fuel falls out the now longer open exhaust valves (emissions go off the scale), and at times even worse pop back up the inlet confusing everything - it means fuelling gets exceptionally tricky - its why wild cams have people blipping the throttle at the lights trying to keep it alive

when you then molest filter flow, air box design, vague fuel pressure and interesting exhaust systems - all the bits that gave the car is bland but very drivable wide power band get utterly messed up

if this is an NA car with silly cams and random other mods - trying to get the fuelling great everywhere will be impossible - the ONLY hope - you need some one that knows these engines, knows these cams, understands the other mods this car has, and is an utter genius with remapping  - but his work will be serious money and is 2 days of effort to create a very compromised car that runs OKish so you can at least get at the bigger power hiding round the rev counter

its why manu just put a giant fan on them now and boost them to death - so much simpler
