safe map for 1.0 ecoboost?

Featured Replies

hey guys, I have a 100hp ecoboost, currently running a stage 1 flash map from a local mobile remapper. Since then it has ruined the synchros, i've just had my gearbox and clutch replaced. I'm looking at an alternative map which is safer for my car. these are my 2 options

- Revo Stage 1, Revo appeals to me due to the SPS, which allows you to go from stock to map 1,2 and anti-theft, however after contacting a revo dealer, the map cannot be adjusted to restrict torque in 1st and 2nd gear - All in around £500 + VAT

- Dyno tune, I can tailor the map to how I like, Which would be to reduce torque in 1st and 2nd to limit gearbox damage, i was also looking to get static rev limit removed and slight overrun for burbles. However map cannot be adjusted like the revo sps - Likely around £350-400 + VAT

I want to have some fun in my car but I also want to avoid gearbox damage, can anyone advise if they were in my situation what they would lean towards?

If anyone has any experience on other stage 1 maps and can recommend them please do.

Thanks 🙂

The 5 speed box is rated for 170 Nm, it was never designed for modern turbo charged petrol engines.

Even the 140PS stock map is known to have syncro problems with the 5 speed box.

There is no safe remap for the 5 speed if you are increasing power.

Given the fragile nature of both the Ecoboost 1.0 engine and the frequently reported gearbox falling apart problems, I'd leave it well alone. If you want more power get a different car.

Superchips or Remap Kings is a reliable map and a lot cheaper than the REVO price

But the weak transmission issues remain

Perhaps a Focus MK3/Fiesta MK8 six speed conversion would be a good idea too?

There is that:

Could be a lot of work/expense on a car with a belt change coming up - but Anton seems to have spent a lot already on remaps/gearbox/clutch.

  • tell me about it lol, i've had my car in the garage 3 times the past 6 months with gearbox issues , over £1500 and several synchro repairs later, hopefully this new clutch and gearbox holds up😁
  • regarding the wet belt, my car has just hit 50k, i've owned it since about 32k with oil changes every 8-9k with the right 5w-20 oil. its also a 15 reg so should i wait until i hit 65-70k? or i was thinking of just getting it done next year to be on the safe side

Did you pay for the upgrade and get the extra hard chocolate gearbox ? 🤣

after getting my syncros repaired they started grinding within a week, the garage i took it too accepted that it must have been there doing, i supplied them with an uprated clutch and a refurbished ib5 with 25k miles on to fit which they did for £100, in the hopes the uprated clutch would help take some strain off the gearbox

Your profile says 2016? A 15 would be due next year anyway, many would advise doing it now, in either case.

That one got written off iirc.

Given the OP's luck, I think it's worth getting the belt done asap or selling the car and buying something more robust.  A Sherman tank maybe.

Yes, I think we've recently given the same advice regarding an 8 year old car on another thread.

This does show, once again, that it's worth having a good think what you want to achieve before starting out on modding. (Says he who conspicuously failed to do so several times in the past!😀).

If only there was a standard Mk 7.5 Fiesta with a reliable 180hp, a 6 speed box and suspension/brakes to suit that you could trade up to................😀

Of course, some people do just like a project for the satisfaction of achieving something yourself, and I totally get that.
